Overview
Much like with the entry on Bolt, there's no reason to go into the well-known history of New Bolt (hereafter referred to as Bolt). We're going to stick to the lesser-known history and that which relates to Lurking Glass.
Eviltechie Visits Bolt
Shortly after Bolt2 was shuttered Bolt's Product VP, Kit Cody, offered to fly eviltechie out to visit the New York office. This invitation came during the discussions about getting the Boltfolio Profile Logger running on the new site. Kit said the trip was compensation for work on various Bolt-related projects, but it also seemed to be somewhat about PR and outreach to the people who were upset about the closing of Bolt2.
Eviltechie and Foxie flew to NYC. The trip went well, many people were met, many things discussed, many things learned, and a few beers downed. Based on what was seen on the trip, Bolt's future looked promising. Everyone on the staff seemed optimistic and driven. You'd never have guessed that Bolt would file for bankruptcy a few months later.
A brief blog about the trip was written, and posted on Bolt after eviltechie returned home.
Boltfolio Profile Logger Negotiations
Kit Cody, and many other Bolt staffers were strong supporters of the profile logger. After Bolt disabled Javascript on the site, eviltechie and Kit discussed how to get the profile logger running. Bolt development staff was briefed on its operation and code was shared. Kit had all but assured us that the profile logger code would be integrated into Bolt's native code. However, little was heard about it after that and once Bolt started having legal problems it became a low priority. In addition, Kit and other long-time staffers began leaving Bolt for more stable jobs elsewhere. This spelled end of the profile logger.
Post-Bolt Era
After Bolt closed for good a number of the members migrated to other sites. Some of these communities are still active today. Below is a list of the ones we're aware of.
Members of the old Bolt.com — Facebook group with over 400 members.
Bolt(Again) — Started by a former Bolt staffer and originally launched under the Bolt.com domain name after Bolt closed. This site is still fairly active, especially among a core group of members. More info soon...
Bolt Babes 4 Clay Aiken — This is a private forum. But some of the Clay Aiken fans from Bolt's American Idol boards moved here.
If you you know of anywhere else you can find members of Bolt today, please let eviltechie know.
