Basically everything except soccer is shown for free.

whenever games are played for all sports except football ("soccer"), every city sees their local teams free, plus a handful of other what are deemed "best matches of the day."

so for the NFL (american football) that's 3 or 4 sunday games during the day and a feature game at night and a featured monday night game, for the NBA (basketball), it's saturdays and sundays during the day for free and then featured night games each night of the week on cable channels, either ESPN or TNT (which we pay for in a basic cable package), same for the NHL (hockey).

for tennis, we get the semis and finals of majors for free and get the rnd by rnd matches on basic cable, ESPN or USA usually. golf, we get the 3rd and 4th rnds of most significant tournaments, with the first 2 rnds of majors on basic cable channels.

football (soccer) is all on cable channels, mostly premium (non-basic channels). i get them all, so that's GOLTV (spanish/german league), Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Soccer Channel Deportes (english/italian league), ESPN Deportes (spanish, brazilian, colombian, mexican league).

so we get most stuff free, then a ton of shit on basic cable, then for the avid fucking fans who must have the option to see any all games for any sport that happen to be on, there are on-demand cable packages or cable or satellite, but that last option gets a little pricey, maybe $200 (120 Pounds) for all NFL games for the season, called NFL Sunday Ticket, as an example.

Don't Spanish stations show soccer matches?
  4. amoeba15 I knew it! I'm surrounded by Assholes!

If you get a local station in Spanish, probably. But for the free OTA tv stations you pick up with rabbit ears and a digital converter box, no. You don't get soccer.

I'm pretty sure that at some point I've seen full length soccer matches broadcast on tv when it wasn't the World Cup.
  6. MrJunkpile alflalfla

    Yep.

Ok I have a new question, if boys in the USA like football/soccer why is your male national team so shit?
  8. Starfish Pink bunny

Assuming that's true (I have no idea), it's probably because soccer teams stop being common after high school, and it's not played professionally. Less opportunity play, plus less incentive to play, means fewer good players to choose from and an overall lower skill level.
  9. amoeba15 I knew it! I'm surrounded by Assholes!

Uhh, it is played professionally, Joy.

I thought the US team did well against the UK in the Cup (considering)

But give them a few more years to see if it developes

1-we don't have a strong professional soccer league to draw athletes in an develop their talent. countries that do well in international soccer all have strong pro leagues at the core of that team, from Serie A in italy to the Bundesliga in Germany to La Liga in Spain. the 2 exceptions to the rule are Brazil, which has a decent pro league, but also has 200,000,000 people, who ALL wanna play soccer like they practice religion. the other exception is england, which has a strong league but is shit in internationaly play, mainly cos its filled with foreign talent the league paid to bring in, mainly cos there's a lack of talent in england to compete well.

2-we have 3 other sports competing for our best athletes.* yes, soccer is popular here, but since there's no pro league to aspire to, and since we do have the strongests leagues in the world for american football, basketball and baseball, the lion's share of talent that can run fast and jump and shit gets sucked into those sports. so yeah, we love soccer as kids, but by the time to decide which sport to pursue as a pro, little boys go with what they see the star athletes in america doing, which is play american football, basketball and baseball. in other words, not too many kids wanna grow up to play a sport in a foreign country that's barely even televised in their own fucking country.

*to really see the pt of how much other sporting activity is pulling our athletes in directions AWAY from soccer, just look at the seating capacities of our stadiums and track what our fans watch. as i said before, wembley is the biggest stadium in england, camp nou in spain, as examples, which are 80 to 90,000-seat arenas and stand out ass anomalies in those countries for size. in the US, we have 25 stadiums with 80,000 or more seats, a total of 50 stadiums with more than 70,000 seats and about 75 total stadiums with more than 60,000 seats. this is a ton of fan housing capacity and NONE OF THESE venues are dedicated to soccer, which means all of them are drawing fans and kids watching sports toward the american football game on display in those arenas.

    ...

so, in a nutshell, the US nat'l soccer team is shit cos we don't have a top notch pro league for soccer developing the players for it, while at the same time we DO have top notch leagues in 3 other sports that do.

our athletes go where the national demand for their talent is best, and that ain't soccer, you dumb bitch.

england hasn't won the world cup since JFK's assassination. end of story.

who gives a shit what the fifa rankings are? they had portugal ranked 3rd going into the cup last summer.

    how'd that turn out?
  14. -C-A- Active Member

There's more to World rankings than the world cup. The international game involves a whole lot more.

But anyone in the football-know knows that much. Badam-tish.

A most obvious point that it is and all. However I am sure there are many who find this quite boring so I shan't mention anymore about it given there are plenty of threads on this subject.

    /thread?
  15. 6ix Guest

yes, that's what you normally do when you have no case to be made. you say something childish, then bow the fuck out of the thread with some "/thread" bs.

it's funny how you can be intelligent and articulate when discussing hosni mubarak, which means you're capable of being that way. this can only mean you get childish in debates with me cos you have nothing intelligent or articulate to say.

this is what i look for to know i've beaten you:

childish cracks, little-girlish font-changes and smileys. keep up the good word, love, i read you like a book.

I went to watch my two little cousins, girls, play one time. On a co-ed team and it was mostly girls, haha.
