    Given the nature of this site and its beginnings as a Bolt alternative when Bolt was shutting down it wouldn't bode well for new members to come here. They'd only be driven off by the regular users. It's happened before and it won't change. This is too insular of a community.

    If it bothers you so much that Nate pays more for service than he receives from ads then put your money where your mouth is and donate. Otherwise, just shut up.

    Only HERE would I find people stupid enough to try to mount an argument against site growth. Umm, dufus, the owner HIMSELF has been quoted as saying he's trying to get the site growing and trying to make some changes to it so it's financially more successful. A nice flow of people from FB would be worth putting the 20 regulars who sit here and post now but WON'T donate at risk.

    You think inviting 20 people from Facebook at one time are going to stick around? The majority will get here, see the lack of activity, get frustrated, and leave. The ones who do stick around more than a few weeks will eventually get sick of the insularity of this community.

    Nate may WANT to expand the site but the likelihood of it happening? Not likely at this time.

    You have to start somewhere, Amoeba. Surely you see that. Every site on the web started out with no traffic. Chris does more than 1 blog. He does tons of them. I think he's done like over 25. His blogs would bring people here over and over again. Some will stick. We could ALL post interesting articles and threads on walls on FB and help out too. It's not a quadratic equation to see this makes sense. Stop pretending you don't get it. I know you do.

    I think donating to a site you can use for free, is actually a sign of having more money than sense. I mostly just donated because I was retarded enough to want a custom user title.

    If too many of the wrong people join, the people who were here to start with leave. You need to think about member retention as well as about attracting new members.

    Yep, and the mods think the same way, which is frightening. LOL, when you have a site where 20% of the users are moderation staff, something's terribly wrong. If we had 1000 members, that would translate into 200 mods and admins. I THINK THAT'S TOO MANY.
