Haha, I know right! That was a great topic. I don't know what happened.

No, that topic wasn't dealt with as such, it was mainly looking at the change from Christians generally accepting the theory of evolution to the development of Creationists and the view that the word was literally created in 6 days etc. which was never the official teaching of the Christian community. It didn't look too deeply into the exact implications of evolution to the story of Genesis because it is not a text which should be taken literally. I get the point you're trying to make, it is hard to answer.

I was hoping it addressed it. I'd love to see the Church officially respond to the question. I don't know how they'd answer it without undermining the spiritual significance of mankind, something they rely on.

If I have the opportunity to broach it with one of my theology lecturers, I will! I'm doing a module on the Philosophy of Religion at the moment.

The Bible teaches us what people thought 2000+ years ago.

Yeah, the point was that even during the days of Galileo, probably the classic paradigm of religion versus science, there was a strong belief among Catholic theologians that the bible was not meant to be interpreted literally and dogmatically applied to the natural world.

However, interestingly enough, Galileo's prosecution had a lot to do with his personal insult to his former friend, the Pope rather than the Catholic Church fearing a heliocentric model of the universe for some reason of religious dogma. Indeed, a lot of their objection to his model was that it was simpler, but essentially no better scientifically than Ptolemy's model, which put Earth at the center of the universe. Most of the Vatican's scholars were unconvinced that Galileo's model was anything but a useful way to predict the motions of the planets (similar to Ptolemy's model in that respect), and there were many unresolved flaws with the idea that the Earth revolved around the sun.
